Rental Registration Law: Rhode Island law requires landlords to register their rental units with the Rhode Island Department of Health by October 1, 2024. Pre-1978 rental units must also file lead certificates as part of the registration process unless they qualify for an exemption. According to the RI Association of REALTORS® (RIAR), Landlords who wish to evict tenants for non-payment of rent must file an affidavit documenting that they registered their rental unit with DOH or they will not be able to proceed.
